Stuff I Learned - 12 Jun 2013

I learned of another social media site; actually I had heard about this site a while back, but I didn't know anyone who was on it, until I discovered some friends who were now linked to it. It's called Tout (http://tout.com) and offers you the opportunity to make a 15-second video tweet and put it out for all to see. This differs from Vine (http://vine.co), which only gives you a 6-second window of opportunity. I tried it out and created my first Tout for the world to see...enjoy::

Stuff I Learned - 10 Jun 2013

I just read how Tim Tebow was signed by the New England Patriots as a backup quarterback for Tom Brady.  In spite of all the negativity, this "polarizing" player (according to the press, who polarizes him) was hailed by coach Bill Bellicek for his "versatility, intelligence and character."  According to the ESPN article that was written, "Coach Belichick covets what he has described as tough, smart, versatile football players."

How many times do we hear the junk, either from others or (worse) from ourselves or those closest to us?

Sometimes it takes a story like that to keep you away from the brink of despair.  You may not be able to throw a football, but you have talents that you can use to get you to that highest level that you desire.

The one step formula to success:

1.  Never give up!

Have a great day!

Stuff I Learned - 03 Jan 2012

I've been reading Geoffrey James's (Inc. Magazine) blog, I found a couple of things this week that were pretty insightful for me and to help me stay motivated. People ask him often how he keeps motivated to blog virtually every day for the past six years. He begins each day with the following commitments (link to article is below):

1. Creativity

Today I will make something new and different and thereby change the world for the better.

2. Resourcefulness

Today I will become strong by overcoming obstacles with persistence and flexibility.

3. Enthusiasm

Today I will permit myself to become excited in anticipation of whatever might happen.

4. Perceptiveness

Today I will look beyond my preconceptions to see the truths that I missed before.

5. Appreciation

Today I will remember the miracle of conscious existence, which is all too soon over.

6. Sensitivity

Today I will remain aware of the emotions of others and how they interact with my own.

7. Relaxation

Today I will spend at least one hour doing something that's just because I enjoy it.

8. Happiness

Today I will do my best to remain happy, regardless of the circumstances of the hour.

9. Power

Today, I will use some of whatever power I possess in the service and for the welfare of others.

10. Health

Today, I will take action to ensure that I'm in better health than I was yesterday or the day before.

11. Wonder

Today I will sit back and marvel at the unexpected, without which life would be boring.

12. Playfulness

Today I will express, at least once, the joy of the child who still lives inside me.

13. Gratitude

Today I will be thankful for all the wonderful things in my life: my family, my friends and, yes, my work.

Have a wonderful holiday and fabulous 2013!

Stuff I Learned - 20 Dec 2012

I've taken a little bit of a break the last few days - after the incident in Connecticut, I needed a few days off from all the media that was flowing through the internet, cable, radio, and the like.  I've been picking up stuff nevertheless, and here are a few things that I was able to pick up during that time...

Quotes:

Success seems to be largely a matter of hanging on after others have let go."  - William Feather

"When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on." - Franklin Roosevelt

"Diamonds are nothing more than chunks of coal that stuck to their jobs." - Malcolm Forbes

"The greatest inventions in the world had no value until somebody sold them." -  Unknown

The Pickle Pledge (when working around pickle-sucking complainers):  I will turn every complaint into either a blessing or a constructive suggestion."  - Joe Tye

"If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten." - Tony Robbins

“On no account, brood over your wrong-doing. Rolling in the muck is not the best way of getting clean.” - Aldous Huxley

"The best way to gain self-confidence is to do what you are afraid to do." - William Jennings Bryan

“The more you give value, the more you will get your way.” - Jeffrey Gitomer

"Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value." - Albert Einstein

"In economics the majority is always wrong." - John Kenneth Galbraith

"It is not work that kills men, it is worry. Work is healthy; you can hardly put more on a man than he can bear. But worry is rust upon the blade. It is not movement that destroys the machinery, but friction."  - Henry Ward Beecher

Stuff I Learned - 14 Dec 2012

God loves the families of the Sandy Hook victims more than anyone can imagine, and I know that He will become very present in the lives of many over the next few weeks. May He bless them and keep them, may He make His face shine upon them and be gracious to them; may He lift up his countenance upon them and give them peace.

Out of all Master Minds in the world, there is only one true Master and today, I quote from the great treasury of wisdom that He gives us through His word:

"He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord." - Psalm 113:9

"Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their opponents in court." - Psalm 127:3-5

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." - Psalm 139:13-16

"A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world." - John 16:21

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." - James 1:17

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. - Romans 15:13

God bless the people of Newtown, Connecticut...

Stuff I Learned - 13 Dec 2012

Sometimes we go through phases where it seems we might know someone, or know a friend of a friend or relative, who leave us suddenly. A stroke, a fall, or a long-lasting struggle with an illness.  No one is ever ready for something like this.

While it doesn't seem fair at times, the world doesn't owe us an eternity. However, we owe it to ourselves to make the most of our life and our lives to count for eternity. Since we never know when our time will come, we need to learn to just live for today.  As for me, even if it hasn't been a great day (I'm learning not to have bad days), I have another day to try again. That's another miracle of life.

Quotes:

"Enjoy yourself. It's later than you think." - Chinese Proverb

"Live every day as if it were going to be your last; for one day you're sure to be right." - Harry "Breaker" Harbord Morant

"Go for it now. The future is promised to no one." - Wayne Dyer

"Every man dies. Not every man really lives." - Braveheart

"Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive." - Elbert Hubbard

"As you grow older, you'll find the only things you regret are the things you didn't do." - Zachary Scott

"Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today." - James Dean (maybe not the best example)
